Hi Shiela I can understand your fear because I've been there ,the back end of last year I had a positive fit test and a raised CA125 blood test and told it could indicate ovarian cancer ,I had to have a colonoscopy and a hysteroscopy which I dreaded , ,the hysteroscopy was first it wasn't pleasant but at the end of it which took over an hour she was able to tell me she took a polyp and a few biopsies which she didn't think looked nasty so I was releaved although I knew I had to wait for the biopsy and polyp results to be sure ,the colonoscopy was a doddle compared to the hysterocsopy ,I was sadated and it seemed like it was over in minutes I never felt a thing ,less than 2 weeks later I received news that I had diverticulitis polyps and fibroids and these are what was causing the tests to be raised ,so don't worry its more likely to be something else there's lots of things it could be ,I'm sure you'll be fine x

25 is not very high. The cut off for a positive reading is 10 and as your doctor said, plenty of people get results in the 100s. You will see posts on this site where people got results of 300 or 500 or 900 and didn't turn out to have cancer.

I read somewhere that one in 10 people will have a positive result on the FIT test. It just means there is blood in your stool and many, many things can cause that. Some possibilities are hemmorhoids, a fissure, a polyp, ulcerative colitis or Crohns (thought these two might be less likely in your case, because I think they are often diagnosed at younger ages and often have additional symptoms but I could be wrong), an infection, diverticulitis...Yes, cancer is also a possibility, but it's far from the most likely. 

I doubt your dad having lung cancer would mean anything. Cancer is common and most people will have family members who have had some form of it. I doubt that means you are at any higher risk.

And yes, they will have to do a colonoscopy whenever there is a positive FIT, but that's not just "to see if you have cancer or not." It's to see what is causing the bleeding. If you have a polyp, they will want to remove it because some polyps can become cancer after many years and obviously if you have Crohn's or ulcerative colitis or diverticulitis, they will also need to know that so as to treat it.

I know it's hard not to think of the worst case scenario, but it is only one possibility out of many and the odds are probably strongly against it. Hemorrhoids or a polyp or a fissure are probably far more likely.

My mum had diverticulitis and a perforated bowel years ago yes your right, but I shouldn't worry so my husband has recently been diagnosed with MCI with Lewy bodys so i care for him with this on top its too much but thank you for helping put my mind at rest ...
