Swollen Nodes

Hi all,

I was on a family holiday back in October when my 12 year old daughter noticed swelling near my right side collarbone and asked what they were?

I already knew I had them for a few months and it was she who gave me a kick up the backside to get them checked out.

I'm 52 years old and my GP had me checked, blood tests and an ultrasound at a local clinic within a week and the doctor after reviewing these results stated they looked fine but still referred me to a ENT consultant at the hospital.

He carried out various examinations including a camera up each nostril and concluded these were all ok.

he reviewed my previous blood results which were normal but did not have original ultrasound results.

I have since had another ultrasound where a biopsy sample was obtained from one of the four swollen lymph nodes.

I am waiting for these results to see what the next steps will be required and have to admit it feels like my life is on hold and try to remain positive.

I have had no infections or night swets etc.

As anyone else been through similar circumstances?

    Hello Si and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat, 

    It's great your daughter pointed it out to you - sometimes it just takes a gentle nudge from someone else to pluck up the courage to go and get things checked out. Your GP seems to have been very thorough and it's good that things moved quickly and that the doctor reassured you that the results looked fine but that you were still referred and saw the ENT consultant at the hospital. It's also reassuring that the ENT specialist said everything looked normal. 

    Obviously you are bound to feel really anxious at the moment as you are waiting for these ultrasound results and results from the biopsy sample. Waiting is really the hardest thing when you feel your life is on hold and it's hard to think positive and not to fear the worst. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news. 

    I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. 

    I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Hi Lucie,

    Thank you for kind and positive reply.

    I agree with the nudge to get the ball rolling and I do know it's for the best to get things sorted sooner rather than later but have to admit sometimes and know this sounds selfish I wish I'd just carried on as normal.

    I have tried to ignore the internet but admit I have delved and with all the positives you find their as many terrifying negatives.

    fingers crossed all works out for the best my end and I'll checkout the link of useful tips.
