Hi Andy,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am so sorry to hear that you cannot share your concerns with your family at the moment. This must have made the waiting particularly difficult for you especially over the holiday period. What moves has your GP made - has she referred you to the breast clinic or for further tests? It is a fact that 80% of people referred to these clinics get the all clear, so here's hoping that you end up being one of the lucky ones.
We all tend to panic at the thought of a cancer diagnosis, but diagnosis, treatment and aftercare have all improved dramatically in the past few years. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer myself and I lost my mum to it too. Initially, I was absolutely terrified, but it does get easier once you know wwhat you are dealing with. The tests for this are very straightforward - usually a mammogram, an ultrasound and a biopsy. Unfortunately, there is usually another 1-2 weeks wait to get the results of the biopsy.
I had my first bout 13 years ago and the second 12 years ago. I had a lumpectomy first time around and a double mastectomy the second time. Despite this, I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Please remember that you are never alone now that you have found this forum. We have nearly all been where you are now and have experienced the highs and lows of this disease first-hand. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
