So scared about seeing the consultant

Hi

I am new to this forum but have read a few posts and you are all amazing coping with what you are faced with.

I'm very sorry for the long post and if it's not worded correctly

I am really scared right now, I've been put on the 2 week list as they told me they suspect gynaecological cancer following a period after 22 months through the menopause.

I've had a smear test which was normal result and had a biopsy 2 weeks ago and a scan 1 week ago these I've not had results back but I have now been told I have an appointment with the consultant on 6th December. I'm not sure if this is routine regardless of the results but I'm convinced it's because I have cancer.

My family history of cancer is very high and due to this I suffer with health anxiety and not sure how I'm going to get through until the 6th.

I guess I just want to hear from others about their experiences. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

  • Hello Dmin

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health concerns recently. It's good to hear that you've already seen the specialist and that you're now waiting for your results appointment next week.

We know that for many people this period of waiting for results can be a difficult time and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of seeing the Consultant. Try not to read too much into how quickly the results have been returned and that you've been given a face-to-face appointment. There really is no hard and fast rule about how these things work. This article from Saga gives some useful tips and advice about how to cope whilst waiting for news.

If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Do let us know how you get on next week.
