Under armpit pain

Hey

going out my mind right now!! 29 and I've had pain in my arm pit for 9 months - I've been to the doctors twice who told me to change bra etc as the wire was digging into my arm pit.

I've been today and the doctor said she can't feel any lumps in my breast or lymph nodes but she can feel a raised bump on the muscle so thinks it's wise to refer me to the breast clinic for an ultrasound of the area.

I am going out my mind and convincing myself it's going to be breast cancer as everything I read online it comes up with breast cancer!

  • Hi Steph,

A very warm welcome to our forum. This is always a worrying time, but you will only make things worse by consulting 'Dr Google'. We all tend to do this, but there are so many different types of breast cancer, all of which have different, albeit similar symptoms, but very different outcomes.

Your doctor is just being extra cautious and getting you checked out at the clinic, even though she cannot feel any lumps. Try to bear in mind that only 1 person in every 8 who attend the breast clinic gets a cancer diagnosis and the younger you are, the less likely this is to happen. Pain does not usually accompany a breast cancer diagnosis and there can be many other, less serious reasons for this.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years and am still leading a busy and fulfilled life, so even a cancer diagnosis is not as drastic as it used to be.

Having said this, I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
