Looking for reassurance

Hi all, I am new on here and just looking for a bit of reassurance. A few weeks ago I was just out of the shower and drying my hair in from of the mirror I noticed that my right breast was sitting a bit lower than my left and both nipples weren't in line with each other. Ok set the hairdryer down and looked a bit more and then noticed my areola on my right breast was a lot bigger than my left. I made an appointment with the GP and when I went he had a feel and said he felt a wee lump under my nipple but don't think it's any to going to worry about but referred me for a mammogram and scan (my appointment is on 30th of November) from the appointment with my GP I have now noticed the vains in my right breast are more noticeable. I have mixed emotions and don't know what else would be causing this if it's not cancer I can't seem to find any answers online.

Thank you

    HI Michelle,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear of your concerns. Most women have one breast larger than the other, so hopefully this is nothing untoward. Veins too can be more prominent on one breast than the other. However, you have done the right thing in getting it investigated. I am glad to hear that you already have an appointment at the breast clinic for the end of this month. Doing a few simple checks is the best way to ensure that there is no cancer present. Unfortunately, GPs do not have the necessary equipment to do this.

There are many different reasons for breast lumps and not all are cancer. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts, whilst others have something like a simple cyst. It is a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so let's hope that you are one of the lucky ones.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
