Inverted nipple - what will happen at doctors appt tomorrow?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help, I've recently discovered my left nipple has started to invert, I've never noticed before (I check regularly) so I'm not sure if this is normal for me, usually if it inverts It easily pops back out again but I'm so worried now, I've got an appointment with my drs tomorrow afternoon and I'm thinking the worst, what will happen at the app? I'm 32 and on no contraception, thank you!

  • Hi Diddley,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You probably won't get any answers tomorrow. Your GP is likely to ask you some questions such as how long your breast had been like this, when you first noticed it, etc. S/he may then examine your breasts. If there is the slightest suspicion of anything untoward, you will be referred on the 2 week urgent pathway to the breast clinic. Don't let this phase you, as this is the normal route for such referrals.

You will then normally be seen at the breast clinic, where they will carry out further tests. In someone of your age, this would possibly be an ultrasound and a biopsy. There is then another 1-2 week wait to get the results of the biopsy.

I hope that noyhing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi, I've been to my appointment, I had a thorough examination and the nurse asked me some questions, she didn't feel anything unusual and explained that my inverted nipple is likely to be hormones or just a natural thing our breasts/nipples do during our life time. The relief is unreal, I should come back if one or both my nipples stay inverted or I have any other changes, thank you so much for your reassurance it helped alot.

    Best wishes to you

    Hi Diddley,

I am delighted to hear that the nurse was able to reassure you and hope that all returns to normal soon. Don't hesitate to go back if your nipples remain inverted.

    Kind regards,
