Pain one week on from hysteroscopy

Hi,

I had a hysteroscopy a week ago, with endometrial and cervical biopsies taken (all because I mentioned to my GP that I might be starting the menopause, ultrasound etc found thickened lining and now currently waiting for results). Having read all the NHS guidance though, I'm yet to read anything that says to expect quite severe cramps after a week - most say to expect discomfort for a day or two. My period isn't due for a couple of weeks, but I've been in quite a lot of pain for the last few days. Also, my husband today noticed some quite nasty bruising in the middle of my lower back. I've not bumped into anything, but there are three bruises which are vertical and an inch or two in length. I'm not worried about infection as I don't have a temperature or anything, but I haven't felt well since last week. Just wondering if anyone else has had bruising, I can't find anything online about it. Oh, and the pain...getting worse after a week!? Anyone else experienced the same?

Thanks.

  • Hi Charlie

I had a hysteroscopy performed and had pain for a few days, but never noticed any bruising.

If you are still in pain I would advise you contact your doctors and discuss it with them. Your doctors unlike mine seem to be on the ball, so take advantage of that.

I hope this helped in some way, and good luck.

  • Hi AJP, thanks for your message.

From what I've read, it's definitely not that common for the pain to be worse - blood pressure is fine though, so doesn't look like anything has been damaged and caused the bruising. At the moment, belly pains are at a day-before-period kinda level. They've been a bit out of sync, with spotting a week before (I think that's what concerned the GP the most) but not quite this early. Will see how I go today.

As for my GP, I know I'm really lucky that she didn't mess about. I had an appointment for the ultrasound within a couple of weeks, and that revealed the thickening of the lining. Results of procedure are due next week, thankfully not too much of a wait.

  • When I had mine a few weeks ago it said on the leaflet they give you afterwards that you can get in touch with them if you have any problems for advice ,might be quicker than going through a GP .

  • Took me almost 3 months of phone calls to eventually get through the receptionists to get a call back, and by then I had been bleeding daily for 5 months.

Doctor told me to go see him following day, which I did and was seeing a gynaecologist within 2 weeks. After biopsies and MRI scans have been fast tracked for a hysterectomy because of the cancer.

Was told luckily it was the slower growing cancer or the delay in getting to speak to a doctor could have been a different outcome.

Any one on this thread that gets the same problem I did, tell them they have a "duty of care" and make a pain of yourself, because I wish I had earlier.

    Good luck Charlie
