Struggling to come to terms with my mums diagnosis

Hiya,

I aren't really sure what to say just wanted to give this a little try. My mum was diagnosed with myelofibrosis, in June this year, there was initially talk of chemo ect but it was then discovered that she has a cancer gene that would prevent chemo from working, this was discovered the day before her chemo was due to begin. She was given six months to live and is doing well so far but is needing blood transfusions every two weeks.

At this moment in time she is not being offered any other treatment and I feel completely helpless. My mum has always been such a healthy woman who has always eaten the right foods, exercised and generally looked after herself. it just all seems so unfair.

I aren't sure what I am expecting from this but it is just nice to know that other people understand so thank you to anyone who reads this.

  • Welcome to the forum TillyBuzz although I'm so sorry to hear about your mum.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to find out your mum wasn't able to have chemo and that she now has 6 months to live.

I know nothing I say can make this situation any better but I hope it helps to know that our community are here for you and really do understand what you're going through at the moment so I'm sure some of our members who have been on a similar journey with their loved ones will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

I hope this list of resources and information we have for family members are useful but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

    Kind regards,
