Partner told he has Lung cancer, but that might not be right

Six months ago my partner received a series of scans due to back pain.  We were asked to attend the liver clinic who advised us he had lung cancer which had spread to his liver.  They explained that he was at stage 4 and that he was being referred to the lung clinic.  He had a temporary contract in his job and was about to sign for permanent.  He was advise to go off sick and has since lost the job.  Since May this year he had 2 biopsies on the lymph nodes in his chest which where negative, two liver biopsies which again where negative {inconclusive) and a lung biopsy which is inconclusive. Also a series of MRI's, CT's and pet scans.  They have now advised us that they do not know whether it is cancer although the lung is showing as a hotspot on a scan and that they will scan again in January to see if there are any changes.  I know this is great news but i cant believe we have been through all this being advised he was terminal without the cell evidence to prove this.  We cannot get travel insurance or can he obtain permanent work due to him being under medical investigation.  Has anyone been through this???

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Lakemagnolias although I'm sorry to read what you and your partner have been through.

As you say, it's great to hear they think it may now not be cancer but that doesn't make up for everything that's gone before. I can't begin to imagine the rollercoaster of a journey you have been on but I hope it helps to know that our community are here for you and hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will offer you their support and advice.

If you or your partner would like to discuss anything that has happened with one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very friendly, and insightful, and will do all they can to help.

We're thinking of you Lakemagnolias and will have our fingers crossed that the good news continues in January.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
