FIT test

After a bout of food poisoning (dodgy salmon), got referred to the Digestive Diseases folk. FIT test was 400ug g at the time, but the 2nd test a month later (which I had demanded) was 6ug g.

Everything, bowel-wise is back to to normal. Consultant got rather upset as I've refused a colonoscopy.

  • From being on this site for the last 5 weeks I didn't realise how many people were actually having colonoscopies including myself ,I would like to know if its always been this busy they never seem to stop ,mine turned out to be fine which i'm very grateful for its put my mind to rest its just I thought it would be a rare occurance not a regular one ,I'm glad you are back to full health after your bout of foof-poisoning .

  • Hi. Many thanks for replying. The colonoscopy was being forced on on me, I felt. Sadly, I got the impression that the Consultant was being task-orientated and not patient-orientated.

I was very reluctant to have it done, for many reasons. All the blood tests had come back negative, and the physical examination was also negative. My son has regular colonoscopies as he has Crohns Disease, and each time it takes him about a week to recover - and it causes bleeding.

Thankfully, my GP organised the 2nd FIT test - and I was spared any unnecessary invasive procedures.

I'm very relieved to be back to normal.
