Bowel cancer

Good evening,

I have just come home from the hospital a week ago after having open surgery to remove a large tumour, part of my colon, lymph nodes and to be on the safe side per my surgeon, my ovaries and appendix.
I have asthma so I called my GP to book my flu jab but he said I need to get stronger first, how long do you think I should wait before calling again? Everyone around me seems to be coming down with a bad cold or the flu and this is the last thing I need at the moment. Is my immune system low? Sorry about the essay but I just seem to be worrying about everything at the moment.

Hello Sharon,
hope your rehab goes smoothly since this will directly relate to your question.All being well l would say you need to give yourself six weeks. In the meantime the smart money say:s you need to isolate yourself as much as is possible, since your immune system will certainly be challenged.Since you have not mentioned chemo, l assume you have not had it, since that would certainly impact on your immune system.

waiting on pathology results to determine if chemo is needed, although surgeon believes he got everything

Hope everything is fine for you from here on.
I had to have a flu jab before I had my chemo. This was before we had covid.

I had my COVID jab 2 weeks before going in but my GP surgery dint get the flu vaccine in time for me to get it before. I guess I'll find out if I need chemo soon, just hoping he got everything out. Good luck on your journey too

Thank you.
I had the option of chemo second time round because even though they thought they had got it all, it was in one of several lymph nodes that were removed. I thought I was giving mysellf the best posible chance by having it. x
