Hi! I'm Sarah, 61, with stage 1 endometrial (womb) cancer. I've been given the go ahead for hysterectomy surgery within the next few weeks. Cancer cells are slow growing but they'll remove my cervix & ovaries as well as my womb. Due to past surgeries scarring I don't yet know whether my surgery will be lap or open, which is concerning. My BMI is high - I'm 21 stone 12lbs with big bone structure, i.e. I'm skinny as a rake at 12.5 stone (sorry, I don't do metric) so I'm thrilled that after meeting an anaesthetist, she has ok'd the op.
I'm coping well so far, increasing protein intake for recovery whilst trying to go down and back up the stairs regularly with my limited mobility, to try and prepare my body better for the operation, giving my heart and lungs a regular workout to improve my prospects of coming back out of the op without problems.
I'm very happy to say that I've lost a stone since being diagnosed and I'm trying to continue wth that, watching/counting calories but it isn't easy.
