Help - breast clinic referral

I've been referred to the breast screening but there isn't any lumps in any of my breasts the lump is under my arm pit, I'm totally freaking out have been since I got the letter can you ladies give me some reassurance please x

  • I have had a lymph node removed from under my arm, it sat there for years then became sore so they removed it, the biopsy was benign. The wound took a while to heal as it leaked but l am glad to have had it removed.
Not all lumps are cancerous many are like my breast lumps where the milk ducts caused problems l had multiple surgeries to remove leaking ducts, they were often inflamed and infected l was given antibiotics like smarties.
Waiting to be seen in the breast clinic is nerve wracking we all have doubts that it could be cancerous this time. I hope you have good news take a list of questions with you as we forget the vital questions  when we get there. If you would like to take someone with you, relatives/friends were allowed in during my last appointment in July.
    take care

  • Hi Tammie,

A very warm welcome to our forum. We have lymph nodes throughout our bodies, and cancer can spread via these.  The ones under our arms can be associated with breast cancer. As Susie has already said, not all sore nodes are cancerous. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and have had 6 nodes removed from my underarm. Fortunately, none of these were infected.

It is always a worry when you are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic, but it is always well worthwhile to get things checked out. They will do some tests at the clinic, to see whether or not there is any cancer present. You will normally have to wait up to a couple of weeks for the results of these, so you are likely to have yet another anxious wait for these. While you are waiting, try to remind yourself that statistics are still on your side. Only1 person in 8, who attends the clinics, will get a positive diagnosis - I sincerely hope that you are one of the other seven!

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
