Worried Sick I might have bowel cancer

Terrified i might have bowel cancer. Have lost some weight over the last 6 months and been having looser stools. Just had a full body CT that came back normal. However i know that a colonoscopy is the best to rule out bowel cancer so hopefuuly having that soon. Its been six months since i intially saw the Gp and am worried that if it is cancer it might have spread. Am off work and living alone so its all my mind is focusing on at the moment and its not a good place to be in. I wondered if anyone else has been in the same situation and how they coped with the anxiety off it all.

  • Did you have  the screening poo test it's very good at showing up any cells that are cancer. If you did have that and it was negative it could all be okay.

If I am stressed and worried I lose weight without dieting.

Don't let it go untested or unchecked,  have a smear test done too.

Not sure of your age but a couple of friends of mine did actually have bowel cancer and are completely clear now so it's treatable if caught early on.

  • Hi Yes did have stool and blood test and both were clear. Thing is i know the best thing to rule out colon cancer is a colonoscopy and i havent had one of those yet.

  • That's very positive that the poo test was clear, it really is. It could be something as simple as IBS that's treatable and even changing diet. Absolutely have a colonoscopy done and as I said a smear test to rule out cancer.  You have probably had blood tests done too it's amazing how they can rule out cancer from these.

  • Hi shmagic

I think you may have misunderstood the purpose of a smear test-it is not a diagnostic test for cancer and would not be used as a test to rule out cancer as it cannot do that. I wasn't sure why you would suggest it to anyone talking about the potential of having a colonoscopy? Blood tests also do not rule out cancer or necessarily identify it.
