Feeling scared with raised CA125

I am petrified! Eight years ago I survived breast cancer and up until 2 months ago I've not worried about it coming back. I take Tamoxifen every day to help prevent a reoccurrence. 2 months ago I got what I thought was a sick bug…the nausea and heartburn was so bad that I ended up getting an anti sickness injection. I slowly improved but the nausea and change in bowel habit never went away. I struggled to eat normally as I felt nauseous and full quickly. As a result I've lost quite a bit of weight. That worried me because I struggle to lose weight normally. I went to the doctor about a month ago and she did all my bloods and a stool test…everything came back normal. She then did a CA125 test and phoned me last week to tell me it's raised. I was referred urgent for scans of all my main organs and my appointment is tomorrow 3/09/2022. Still feel nauseous, bloated and losing weight. I'm trying to stay positive but I've almost reconciled myself that I've got ovarian cancer. Would love to hear from anyone who is going through similar

  • Hello ARH1968 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry for the worry this is causing but I hope it helps to know that ca125 levels can be raised in many non-cancerous conditions, such as menstruation, pregnancy, ovarian cysts and pelvic inflammatory disease so if you can, try to stay calm and not jump to any conclusions until you know more.

Easier said than done I know, but many of our members have been in a similar situation so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

We're thinking of you ARH1968 and will have our fingers crossd the scan results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
