Awaiting results

Hello

I've just recently been to GP with what I thought was a hernia.

Upon examination, she found a pelvic mass and performed bloods there and then and referred me for Ultrasound.  It has indicated that my CA125 is elevated, and the Ultrasound has found a 20cm cyst? on my right ovary.       I had a hysterectomy performed 10 years ago at 41.

I have seen Gynaecologist who referred me for MRI, which I had last week and he said that I would then be discussed at MDT as soon as scan reported and I'd be recalled back to clinic.     He said whatever happens, I will be requiring surgery to remove the lump, both ovaries and tubes.

As I say, I'm now 51....post menopausal and have a high risk of breast cancer (on annual screening programme due to mum, 2 aunts and 3 other members of family on mums side).    The Consultant did ask if I had even been offered BRAC1/2 screening but I said I hadn't.

Now I'm just waiting for results from MRI and the next plan of action.    I'm finding this so difficult and am desperately trying to not google!

Aside from this  I generally feel unwell - the constant bloating, fatigue, acid reflux and the general heaviness I feel with my stomach.    I can't cope with normal meals so eating little and often.

  • Hi

My mum has similar symptoms and is having her MRI today. We don't have the ca125 results yet. She has a complex cyst 5cm and has bloating, decreased appetite and pain in her side.

  • Hello

I thought I would come back with an update.

So I am now 2 weeks post-surgery.     I had a laparotomy with thr removal of the mass, both ovaries, fallopian tubes, appendix, a biopsy of the omentum and peritoneal washings.

The mass in the end was 30cm x 12cm solid.    It was incredibly heavy to lift out!

I am now waiting for the Histology results from the Consultant which should be this week!

How did your mum get on?

  • Hi,

That's good to hear you've had the operation. My mum had robotic keyhole surgery on 13th September. She had a full hysterectomy as well as her omentum and appendix removed. Her ca 125 results were 'fine'. Nobody has shared them with us despite us asking  it's been a response of either they are fine or we don't have them at this hospital...

She is now waiting for her biopsy results.

All the best for the results x

  • Hi,

I thought I'd provide an update which may also help others...

She went in yesterday and was told her ovarian complex cyst was borderline, but there were signs of invasive cells likely to have been cancerous if not caught early. They also found a lump in her appendix... She was told she will not need any further treatment aside from check ups every 3onths. Looking at responses on here it seems as though others have got much more detailed explanations so unsure if there was more information we could have pushed for. I myself was not there, but my sister went with my mum. How are you?

  • Hi Anna

Oh how lucky your mum was to have been caught so early!     It must be reassuring too that she will be monitored so regularly.

My Histology results came back after the Gynae MDT to confirm that thankfully all was well and everything has indicated that it was benign.     So that's a huge relief!

I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago which went wrong, and I was taken back to theatre to rectify but that also did not go to plan and I almost died as I went into hypovolemic shock.      The Consultant and MDT think that my recent issues have been caused by the fallout from these previous surgeries.      She said my insides were a complete mess and to quote she "didn't quite know where to start!"

I'm relieved it's all over.     Wishing your mum all the best in her future check ups.
