Hi, I am 45 years old and generally quite fit and healthy. I was diagnosed with DCIS at the start of June. Unfortunately, I was not a candidate for breast conservation surgery and have been referred for DIEP flap reconstruction at the same time as my right mastectomy and left brast reduction. The surgery is currently delayed with no set date due to Covid backlogs and lack of theatre space. I am currently trying to stay sane, not get anxious and plan ahead.
As it stands, I am likely to be at home with only my 16-year-old daughter for support as my husband works away for months at a time and I don't know if he will be able to return. My 16-year-old is fantastic and very mature but I am very wary of not putting too much on her shoulders - I do have a fantastic friend group for support.
I am looking for any practical tips from people that have gone through this that will help me get through the first fortnight. I have already emptied the freezer and am going to batch cook a whole pile of meals. But am wondering what other things I should plan for. Also, I'm wondering how people manage to sleep upright? Did you sleep in a chair or just use lots of pillows? Are V-shaped pillows worth investing in? I have a bedroom downstairs but our shower is upstairs - is this likely to be a big problem at first?
Thanks
