Letrozole

Hi I was just wondering if anyone is taking or as taken Letrozole and what side effects they experienced,  I realise everyone is different so some may get symptoms,  some may not .

I've been on them just 3 days so far and I'm wo during what to expect or what could happen,  any feedback is welcome

  • Hiya

I've been on Letrozole for 7 months now and overall I've been fine . I have had some joint pain and sore feet especially in the morning . I've started taking glucosamine and chondroitin and also vitamin D3 daily which seems to be helping . Exercise also helps a lot . Everybody reacts differently and maybe you'll have no side effects at all . Some ladies say that changing brands has helped  them but I've found all brands to be the same really .
There's a whole load of side effects on the data sheet and I think sore joints is one of the most common . My oncologist told me that after 6 months on the meds any issues probably won't get worse so that was a bonus . I'm sorry I don't have any more info but wish you all the best and fingers crossed you'll fly through treatment x

  • Hi.

I've been taking those vitamins for a couple years now,  I take them to help with my osteoarthritis and M.E symptoms.

I understand different people react differently I was just wondering what problems others had x

  • Should have mentioned this before! Have you tried using search function – not the one at very top of page but the one in the blue bar which just searches cancer chat. Type in Letrozole and quite a lot of posts come up where people talk about Letrozole and side effects etc. xx

  • Oh thank you I will try that x

  • Hi I have been on letrozole about  two and a half months now. I did start to get some bone pain around the 6 week mark of taking it. My consultant told me if this happens to start taking Omega 3 which I did, mine have cod liver oil in too and they have stopped all the bone pain.

My breast care nurse told me that it is usually around 3 months after taking them the side effects might develop but I've been fine apart from this.

Everybody is different on medications I have to say.

Hope all goes well and you don't get any side effects, oh also I always take mine before I go to bed with a slice of toast xxxx

  • Thank you for your reply .

I started them on the 7th July,  I take them in the morning,  already started suffering,  a he's in places that didn't ache before , forgetfulness and a fuzzy head and it's still early days , not sure how much longer I can cope feeling like this .

I already take a range of vitamins and have done for around 2-3 years now one is the one you mentioned one is for joints etc xx

  • Hi as you probably know estrogen plays a part in lubricating joints hence the issues with pain while taking letrozole. Omega 3 is fish oil and has been proved to relieve joint pain. My consultant also said if the pain doesn't settle to also take Tumeric with the omega 3, I havnt needed this.

The ones I actually take are cod liver oil with omega 3 in.

I take my letrozole at night with a piece of toast and my omega 3 at tea time, I also take vit D in the morning prescribed of my GP.

Take  care hope things settle for you soon. xx

  • I have been on Letrozole three years now had some joint pain the first few months but it seems to have settled down now and I have no problems associated with Letrozole. My concern is I will be on them for another two years then they will be stopped my worry is if I am not on medication surely the risk of breast cancer returning is going to be greater, the mammograms also stop after 10 years so the future does not look good. I had my left breast and lymph nodes removed in 2014.

  • Hi Janis yes I know what you mean. However I do know of some people that they actually continue with hormone therapy. A friend of mine had tamoxifen fir 5 years and has now been started on letrozole, she is in her 70 s too.

There will be opportunities to discuss this I'm sure at the time, well I'm hoping so. I think it is fairly common for them to continue for 10 years if felt needed.

    Take care and enjoy xxx
