Waiting for Biopsy.

Hi,

I have a thickening in my right breast. Went to the docs and was referred on a 2ww to the breast clinic. Went on Thursday and had mammogram and ultrasound.

They found a lump within the thick area and wanted to do a biopsy but because of the area the Dr wants an ultrasound guided biopsy. He said that the 'lump is suspicious, but they have found it early as it's only 1cm and it hasn't spread to my lymph nodes'. He then said I would have an appointment in a couple of days so they knew what we are dealing with and that I would have it removed in a couple of weeks.

I don't know if I am interpreting it wrong but it sounds like he was telling me I have cancer without actually saying it. My friend who was with me said she thought that's what he was saying too. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

  • Hello MrsWR.  I have had breast cancer twice, and on both occasions the doctor told me that it was cancer.  The first time I was diagnosed, I had the operation to remove the lump 2 weeks later and they also took some lymph nodes out from my arm pit as a precaution.  It does appear that your doctor was telling you it is cancer without actually using the 'C' word, but my experence was that I was told straight out that it was malignant cancer.  In other words, my doctors didn't beat around the bush.  Good luck, Violet, x

  • Thanks Violet.

I wish he had just said it straight, because now I'm kind of hoping that I have misunderstood and that the biopsy will come back as a cyst or something else. I've got an appointment for the biopsy on Friday so I'm just waiting and carrying on as normal. How did you cope with those 2 weeks between diagnosis and op?

    Vicky x

  • Hi Vicky.  I tried to keep myself as busy as possible, but of course it is always there at the back of your mind.  It is entirely possible that you simply have a harmless cyst, because as I said, on both occasions that I had breast cancer (still got it in fact) my doctors were very honest with me.  But for those 2 weeks of waiting for my op, I watched my favourite films, read a couple of books, went for walks in the park and by the river, which I found very soothing........basically anything to try to distract myself.  I wish you the best of luck with your biopsy on Friday, and also good luck with your up-coming operation, I know exactly how you are feeling, this is a tough journey to go on, but you will get through it, Violet, x

  • Thanks Violet, how are you doing?

    Vicky

  • Well, it's finally been confirmed that it is cancer. Invasive ductal but it is only small so will be having it removed on 8th August.
