US transvaginal referral

My smear test results showed HPV high-grade (moderate) dyskaryosis and I was referred for a colposcopy and biopsy. I was watching the procedure on screen & I noticed a leak of discharge from the abnormal area with a few blisters around it. The nurse suggested waiting for the biopsy results so I could receive appropriate treatment. I  was told I would be contacted in two weeks to go back to the clinic for treatment but before two weeks I received a referral for a US pelvis & transvaginal ultrasound without any information, the appointment is in two weeks and is am very nervous, I am not eating or sleeping and am scared to call my GP to find the reason for the referral. Has anyone had this experience before? I am currently recovering from a fibroid myomectomy and it's been 7 weeks am not getting better. I have been experiencing pain on the right side of my abdomen, and lower back & throbbing, the paitravellingls to the right leg, for over a year now. This is the hardest time of my year

  • Hi Zio and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear the wait for your ultrasound is causing a lot of stress and anxiety. It's completely understandable given that you haven't been told why this is being carried out but if you can, do try and pluck up the courage to contact your GP as they will hopefully be able to tell you more and ease your mind slightly whilst you wait.

As our community know all too well, the waiting really is the hardest part of this process, so you are not alone and hopefully you will get to hear about their experiences and receive some advice from them soon.

It sounds like you've had quite a tough time lately but we are here for you Zio and sending much strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • The ultrasound seems to be the usual step for any pain that may be gynaecology related. My ovarian cysts were found during a colonoscopy my next scan was ultrasound, followed by MRI. I had left sided pain but no idea that I had ovarian cysts. I had them removed six months ago along with the extensive adhesions that seem to have been causing the discomfort as it's now settled. I hope you have your results soon
