New symptoms four months after clear mammogram

I'm worried sick waiting for an appointment to the breast clinic. I was in the same position back in January but had it checked out and everything was fine. The consultant was so positive he told me everything looked okay before I even had the mammogram. However I left the clinic still with a niggling doubt. Letter arrived three weeks later saying no abnormalities found. Three weeks ago I had more pain in left breast but different this time. GP examined me and found a lump and thinks the breast feels very hard so it's back to the specialist now. Waiting ten days now for appointment and getting very worried convinced it's something wrong. GP said clear mammogram is reassuring buts let's get it checked. I have been reading other posts here and they have been helping to keep me calm.

    I'm sorry you've had more pain in your breast and that your GP has now found a lump.

    I know this must be worrying but if you can, try not to jump to any conclusions or assume the worst. Always much easier said than done but as your GP said, the clear mammogram you had at your last appointment is reassuring.

    Many of our members know how scary and stressful this time can be so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer you their support and advice.

    In the meantime, I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay until you know more.

    When I was in the breast clinic recently they said that the mammogram is just a snapshot of the day and they are happy to see me if l am worried so l have an open appointment. I can ring for next available appointment.
    l have had lots of breast operations but the worry is still there if you feel a change. 
    l hope you have your appointment soon and all is ok.

    Thanks Susie. I have an appointment for Saturday morning with the consultant so not too long to wait now.

    So I saw the specialist again and he said he could feel a nodule in my underarm and there was an area of breast thickening. I had a repeat mammogram -very thorough. I have to go back tomorrow and have an ultrasound and maybe, a biopsy too. So still waiting to find out what it is and will probably have another wait after tomorrow. The waiting is torture. I am trying to distract myself but it's difficult. This has been on my mind every day since January really. I will be glad to move on to the next part whatever the outcome.

    Just thought I should update in case anyone was following. I  got the results of the biopsy today. Not good news I'm afraid. It's definately breast cancer. Inflammatory carcinoma he said. So at least I know. Going for scans etc. to see what stage it's at. I will be having chemo immediately and then surgery later. I'm a bit stunned and trying to process but I already have another appointment tomorrow so things are moving fast

    Well done you for not resting on your laurels, so to speak. I know i would have. Would have sat back and thought "Well, they told me it was all fine" just a few months ago.

    As someone else further up stated, scans etc are merely a snapshot of that particular time, and I hope once a treatment plan gets put in place, things will settle down somewhat for you. But yeah, your story just goes to show why people need to seek out their gp again if symptoms change. A lot of folk think they're being hypochondriacs, wasting their gp's time etc, but you proved why new symptoms should warrant nagging away at their doctor.

    Thank you for your reply. Yes I knew deep down that something wasn't right. I am lucky that my GP is very proactive and didn't hesitate to refer me again. I'm just going to take it one step at a time and try not to let my mind go beyond what is happening right now.
