Pain after kidney removal surgery

Hi - I found this forum and along with many of you am thankful to the NHS for their brilliant attention.

By chance I found I had a cancer growth in my left kidney. This has now been removed and I am recovring well from the surgery. The initial pain around the wound passed after a week or so but I now have this soreness in my upper groin just below the incision area. It feels puffy and slightly numb. I mentioned it to the doctor who suggested it may be a fluid build up after the op. Its not overtly painful but uncomfortable and not helped by the residual gas in my belly that means I have trouble getting my  trousers or shorts to fit!

Does this resonate with anyone?

  • Hello jeztoo

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and surgery. It's good to hear that overall you're recovering well from the surgery.

From posts that I've read here on the forum, it's not uncommon to have some discomfort for a while after surgeries. It's good to hear that the Doctor wasn't concerned about this but do keep an eye on things and let them know if you feel it gets worse or doesn't improve.

If you want to talk things through with our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Sending my best wishes for your continued recovery.
