I was diagnosed with breast cancer Feb 2022.

Had a lumpsectomy then radiotherapy,

I have just taken my first tamoxifen tablet.im 36yrs old and  have not started menopause yet, will be on them for ten yrs.

Just wondering when do side effects start.

What do I need to expect from it all.

    Hi peggy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Some people have side-effects to Tamoxifen, whilst others have no side-effects at all. You might find that the best thing to do is to take them, without reading about the side-effects first. If you do notice anything different, be sure to mention it to your care team, as they can sometimes give you other medication to lessen these.  The reason I say this is that, if you know all of the side-effects first, it is all too easy to convince yourself that you've got them.

You will find the leaflet that comes with your Tamoxifen gives a pretty accurate synopsis of what can happen if you really want to read it.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey,

I started taking it towards the end of last year, like yourself I hadn't started menopause yet either (only 30 years old) and I'm on it for 10 years too. I noticed I was having hot flushes, particularly at night. It wasn't unbearable, I'd think it was quite warm but my husband would remind me that the house wasn't warm it was just me lol no other symptoms noticed and the flushes appear to have stopped now anyway.

Hope that helps in anyway and good luck with it all!
