Worried about my referral

Hi all,

I found a lump in my right breast about 2 weeks ago. I've also been experiencing pain and discomfort radiating up to my armpit and my whole boob just feels tender and sore pretty much constantly. I saw the GP a few days later who advised it was most likely a cyst and referred me to the breast clinic for an ultrasound. He also found a smaller secondary lump that he wasn't sure about. My appointment at the breast clinic was meant to be next Wednesday however I received a call from the hospital yesterday saying that a consultant has reviews my notes/symptoms etc and has booked me in for an appointment with the surgical consultant rather than the breast clinic..The call was a bit of a blur so I didn't ask all the questions I perhaps wanted to/should have asked. I got on the phone to my GP straight away asking if a doctor could phone me back as to why my referral has been changed but due to the bank holiday I won't hear anything until at least Monday now. I was feeling extremely stressed and anxious before but I'm feeling it even more so now. Has anybody been in a similar situation?

  • My guess is because of your symptoms. Sounds like something is pressing on a nerve, so good or bad, sometimes things just need removed. Doesn't sound like it will resolve on its own. My wife had similar pain, and before they decided what it actually was, she was told whatever was in there had nerve involvement and if it did turn out to be harmless, it would need removed regardless of the biopsy.

So they've kinda cut the middleman out. Take it your pain is bad?

  • Thank you for your reply [@ProfBaw]‍  That definitely sounds plausible. I'm not in sever pain but it doesn't go away. I said to the GP that normally I'm not aware that I have boobs but with this one I'm very aware that I have one! There's always something niggling either inside or going up to my armpit. It's mostly like a burning pain.  Hopefully I'll get some answers soon.
