Can I opt for a different type of test?

Hello, I have had ibs for approx 20 years. I get constipation most days along with pains in bowel and stomach like cramps. My doc examined me a few weeks ago and ordered blood test and stool sample. My blood came back as calcium in it and my stool test was undermined . I'm so terrified of the telephone appointment with consultant as he may say I need a colonoscopy which I really don't want can I refuse and opt for a different exam?

    I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so very anxious ahead of your appointment with the Consultant. Ultimately the decision to go ahead with any procedure is yours but do talk to the Consultant about your concerns and fears. They may be able to suggest a different approach to any investigations that you may need. 

    I hope that you get the support and reassurance needed and that things can be improved for you soon.
