Worried about oral cancer after white patch found on gum

Hi,

I'm not formally diagnosed.

So a few weeks ago my dentist referred me to hospital due to a white patch on my gum behind my back teeth on the right side at the top, at the referral appointment the consultant said it was both sides but he didn't see or feel anything sinister. A week later I was in for biopsy which was taken from the lower left side, when I questioned this he said 'its all the same'.  Anyway a week and a half later I have developed a sore where the dentist originally spotted the problem, I've looked with a small dental mirror and it looks like white spots and looks sore, it now feels rough too.  I'm going to ask for another biopsy. Anyhoo, I'm scared, annoyed at myself, worried.... Blah

  • Hello LesLaw and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry about the white patches that have been found and for the changes you've noticed in the area where the first white patch was seen by your dentist.

I know this must be scary but try not to be too hard on yourself. The main thing is that it has now been noticed and hopefully it won't be long until the first set of biopsy results come back.

Hopefully some of our members who have found themselves in a similar situation will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

I hope some of the tips and advice given in this article will help keep your worries at bay until you know more.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
