Can a breast consultant recognise a melanoma on breast

Hi I'm 4 weeks plus 1 day from having two what originally were large moles nevi I think... both grew vertically one worse than other ... anyway went for a breast check and the consultant saw my mole and said it needed removing then wrote to my gp saying same but I rang gp first who said don't worry send us a picture sure it is fine ( I had sent them a pic 6 months earlier and had been referred but heard nothing) sent gp pic of my mole she called straight back said would chase the ref and I had a call the next day they were removed within 48hours .... I've been waiting over 4 weeks and surgery today said still nothing back ( yesterday they said opposite but Dr would need to see me) so now I'm confused and wondering if just over 4 weeks wait is a good or bad sign xx

  • Hello heyjude123

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting on some results after having 2 moles removed. We know that waiting for results can be a really difficult time and it's natural to feel anxious and worried during this wait.

From posts that we've read here on the forum, we know that lots of people are waiting longer than 4 weeks for these types of results to be returned. There's really no way to say if the wait means you will get good or not-so-good news. I'm afraid it really is just a case of sitting tight and waiting things out.

Avoid searching online for information until you know anything for definite as this is a sure way to leave you feeling more anxious. Just take things a day at a time and keep busy. If you think it might help to chat with one of our nurses you're most welcome to call them. I'm sure they would be happy to offer any support and advice that they can ahead of your results. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you'll have some news soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
