Anyone any of these symptoms

 Hi everyone,     So I've had symptoms and issues with my bladder for over 2 years   My symptoms started with lower abdomen ache just above my pubic bone. Regularly having cystitis type symptoms. I visited my doctor who convinced me it was my bowel causing my lower abdomen ache. I was sent for a colonoscopy but all fine there.   I started checking my urine regularly and most of the time I have had what looks like white clumps of mucus in my urine.  Also when I'm on my period sometimes It feels like urine is leaking from my bladder but it's definately blood.  I've spoken to the doctor about this and his reply was maybe I think it's coming from my bladder. Every time I've had my urine tested there is no blood there. Yesterday it happend again the feeling like I'm leaking urine but it was blood. But I'm not on my menstrual cycle.  How do I get a doctor to listen to my concerns??  I'm 53 years old and otherwise healthy.

  • Hi can you see a different dr at your practice?

    For a second opinion.

  • Hi Chatty001 - I'm 57 (menopausal, so not entirely in your situation). My pain started exactly as you describe and in the same place.  Similar to cystitis symptoms too. Never passed any blood and urine tests have been negative. Various blood tests done - all normal. Ultrasound of bladder was normal. FIT test was normal (GP also suggested bowel potentially a cause). IBS test was negative. But the pain continues and is there every day, pretty much all day. Wearing anything close fitting, such as jeans will aggravate it. Lying on my front to sleep aggravates it. I take Amitriptyline at night which gives me some relief and sends me to sleep. This has gone on for about 14 months and I'm tearing my hair out and feeling very depressed. There is a very high incidence of cancer in my family - including kidney cancer. Because I haven't passed blood or lost weight my GP has steadfastly refused to do any further testing. I have sought second opinions over the months and hit a wall. About a month ago a new female GP was more concerned and I was referred to a urologist. His words were 'your family history makes me feel paranoid and if I feel paranoid, so should you'. Not the best bedside manner - but at least he took me seriously. He has booked me in for an 'urgent' cystoscopy and biopsy under a general anaesthetic in 3 weeks' time. I'm dreading it. However, he did say that he was optimistic it isn't cancer but wants to rule it out before diagnosing anything else such as interstitial cystitis.
Not sure if this is useful to share at this stage. Obviously I'm very worried indeed and there is plenty of information on google telling me you can have bladder cancer without having blood in your urine. All blogs I have read are from people with blood in their urine so it has been difficult to find anyone with a similar experience! If it is cancer I can only imagine the 14 month wait my GP has inflicted on me isn't going to be helpful.
