Had first chemo a week ago , mouth very sore

Hi Everybody I am 78 and was diognosed with Pnuemonia last july, after three x rays and a ct scan in January it was found to be lung cancer  and also a different cancer of the womb .

They are treating the lungs first and  i am taking tablets for the womb cancer until or if I am fit enough to have the womb removed.

I am having two chemo's Pemetrexed and Carboplati and an immunotherapy drug Pembrolizumab, I had my first session a week ago , have had violent stomach ache which has eased a bit now, and a very sore mouth , I cant eat so just having soups, ice cream etc wondered how long the sore mouth lasts or if anybody has any suggestions that might help

Thank you  Toolly

  • Hello Toolly

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with 2 different cancer diagnoses at the moment. It's understandably been an anxious time for you.

We do have some information on our website about mouth problems with cancer which may be of some help but I'd really encourage you to talk to your treatment team. They will be able to help make sure that all is as well as can be at this stage and recommend or prescribe any appropriate treatments to help you with these side effects.

I know that we will have members who have had to deal with chemo mouth ulcers and hopefully some of them will post to share their advice and tips too.

I do hope that things settle for you soon and wish you well for the rest of your treatment.

    Best wishes,
