Two lumps in breast now on 2ww referral. Terrified

Hi all

I found a little lump in my breast I have been having alot of breast pain before Christmas I had the gp check me over, and they said they couldn't feel anything I had some bloods and they think I'm pre menopause. Thought I had got to the bottom off it then found this lump went yesterday had the gp ok who was lovely I'm coming up to 32 she said she could feel the lump and a second one which I still can't feel. She said both are smooth and moblue but I have to be referred on two week wait because of my age and my mum just recently has breast cancer last year.

I can't help but be absolutely terrified

  • Hi Fran1234

When I went to gp he thought my lump was a cyst, but I was also referred to breast clinic to double check/confirm this then drain said cyst. I was also on a 2 week wait even though at the time the GP wasnt at all concerned as he was certain it was a cyst. Apparently in the UK all breast lumps are seen within 2 weeks irrespective of levels of concern. (At the mo some aren't getting seen within 2 weeks though cos of Covid/staff shortages).

I was seen on day 18 of my 2 week wait- turns out it wasn't a cyst so they have now scanned/biopsied and mammogramed and I am now on week 3 awaiting my results which I was originally supposed to get 10 days after procedures.

So yeah as far as I know being put on a 2 week wait doesn't mean they are more concerned, as this is the time frame they aim to see everyone within.

But also there do seem to be insane delayed everywhere at the moment, so just a little heads up!

Im at a loss as to what to do with myself after been given dates for results which have now been pushed further back.... Results now due this Thursday but part of me is expecting them to be delayed further ....

  • Oh no that is so frustrating for you with all the waiting

I hope you do get the results Thursday and I hope they are all OK.

I find all the waiting is the worse part and I understand with covid etc but it just pushes everything back

  • Hi Fran,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Waiting to be seen and then waiting for any results is usually the worst part of our cancer journey. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many are benign cysts, hormonal or fibrous changes. It is a known fact that only 1 person in every 8 seen at the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. I am sorry to hear that your mum has also been diagnosed  - this is bound to make you feel more anxious.

The fact that your GP found your lumps to be smooth and mobile, as the majority of cancerous lesions in the breast tend to be fixed and jagged. Try to find something to keep you preoccupied until your appointment comes through, as this helps the time to pass. Please let us know whhen you get your appointment. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolaminexx
