Worried about a reoccurance

Hi I'm a female 44 and I'm just venting as I'm not ready to vocalise my fears. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May 2019 and was surgically treated. My colonoscopy check in Jan 2021 I had a non malignant polyp removed. I'm awaiting on another colonoscopy as I was told they would be yearly due to rogue polyp. Tonight I noticed blood in my stool. There have been a couple of other things that could be worrying signs, but could also be down to being un fit  back ache breathlessness. I know Ill need to get in touch with my consultant but I am also just wanting to ignore it all qnd shove my head in the sand. My biggest fear its back and having to tell the people I love again.

    Hi Petrolrainbow,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your concerns. You know in yourself that the sooner you face this and contact your consultant, the better things are likely to be all around. I have had a reocurrence of breast cancer only a year after I was first diagnosed. Fortunately, I caught it early and I am still her 12 years on.

We all live with this fear, but there is no point in procrastinating. I found that telling family and friends the second time around was no where nearly as hard as it was the first time. Please make that phone call and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Joamine, I thought I had replied to you but I think I pressed pressed wrong button and it didn't post. Thank you for your message. I love that you are 12 years clear. That's beautiful to hear. I'm going to get in touch but it will be after the Easter break. I just felt the need to vent and this is a safe understanding space xx thanks you x

    Hi Petrolrainbow,

Don't worry - I've lost count of the number of posts I've lost on this site in the same way. We are here for you any time you want to vent. However, please don't delay in making an appointment to see your consultant, as you may have to wait a while before you get one.

In the meantime, have a Very Happy Easter and keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
