Colposcopy Cervix treatment of CIN 3 cells

Hi everyone,

Im 35, hoping to start a family this year. Last year my cervical screening came back as HPV positive. I had a few biopsies taken of my cervix and these came back as high grade and needing treatment. I had the loop treatment and I've been monitored closely since and its happened again, I need more treatment to remove the cells.

I'm concerned about having more treatment, which will mean less cervical tissue for pregnancy (we are planning to  start a family this year) and I've been told that more treatment could increase likelihood of premature labour (less cervix tissue strength to hold the baby in the later stages).

I'm also concerned that if this keeps coming back, they will recommend a hysterectomy. Has anybody experiences the cervix treatment more than once? How many times can you have this treatment before no more tissue can be taken away ?

I've also been given the option of no treatment but close monitoring whilst we try for a family.

I'm veering towards opting for the treatment again as I'm a worrier

Thanks so much xx

  • Hello Sarah

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with the return of abnormal cervical cells again. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious and uncertain about what this may mean for you in the future.

There's some information on the Jo's Trust website that you may find useful but I'd suggest giving our team of nruses a call if you want to talk things through with someone. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure will be happy to offer any information and support that they can. Alternatively, you could call the Jo's Trust helpline.

I do hope that you get the information and support that you need to make the right decision for you moving forwards.

    Best wishes,
