Hello a bit confused, may be a chance of cancer recurrence?

Hello. I had my right kidney removed in February by keyhole surgery and am recovering well. I also have prostate cancer for which I am having a biopsy next month.

My cancer nurse specialist called me earlier this week to discuss the pathology report on the removed kidney. I thought I understood what he said but now I am not so sure.

The whole kidney was removed an the cancer was contained within the kidney however it is considered stage 3 because of the possibility of microscopic cancer cells having got into nearby veins. Does this mean that I will almost certainly have a recurrance  of the cancer?

The nurse specialist will be around when I have my prostate biopsy so I will ask for a copy of the report

  • Hello Des52

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health problems recently which resulted in surgery and a cancer diagnosis. It's great to hear that you're recovering well from your keyhole surgery and hopefully, things will continue to progress well over the coming weeks.

It's not uncommon to have questions after an appointment with a Consultant or nurse. I'd suggest giving your nurse specialist a call and leaving a message asking her to ring you. She will be best placed to answer your questions and clarify things for you. Don't wait until your appointment next month, I'm sure she will be happy to try and offer some reassurance before then.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
