Need some advice on a mole

Hi my first time on here,

I have a mole on the top of my for many years, I went to the doctors about five years ago as it was getting bigger very slowly about 6 mm by 9 mm  it has irregular boarders and 3 colours in it, he said was fine, and to come back in in six weeks time to measure again witch was the same and said was fine.

Now 5 years on it's 10mm by 11mm and was not really changed in colour just slowly getting bigger, so went back to the doctors before Christmas and couldn't really get a face to face appointment, but did see a junior doctor said it's best to get it checked and referred me to see dermatologist non ergent , while waiting for an appointment I was checking on it very regularly, really getting paraniod about it .

Then once I showed a friend in there room it was a completely different light than my dingy bathroom an notice it looked bit different anyhow panicked rung the doctors saying It might have changed, he Sayed take a photo and I sent to him they already had a photo to compare he said it looked a little pinker, in the end I was referred as 2 week, went last Friday saw the dermatologist nurse fill in the forms had photos taken, then she would ring me back in 72 hours, which she  did and said I will have to have excision biopsy , which is in two weeks, absolutely worried sick !! Any how since ringing the doctors 3 weeks ago I don't think it  had actually changed, I mean I haven't really seen a dematologid doctor face to face ? Yet

I'm sorry just feeling very anxious and worried have come across this forum and just need to talk really

Many thanks Martin

  • Hello Martin and a warm welcome to our friendly forum,

You did well to go back to the doctor's when you noticed your mole was getting bigger - any change in colour or size of a mole should indeed be investigated and it's good you kept checking it regularly and that they then sped up your referral.

Try not to worry too much though about the excision biopsy as this is a standard procedure in situations like yours and I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have had an excision biopsy before. You can read more about what to expect during an excision biopsy on this page

I replied to another member of the forum today, [@Scotland63]‍ who posted this thread and recently had an excision biopsy and is currently waiting for results. It could be a good person for you to talk to and share experiences as you currently find yourselves in a similar position, anxiously waiting for answers and a definite diagnosis.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all goes well and it all turns out to be fine for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Martin,

The wait is horrible, but you done the right thing getting your Mole checked out.

I initially went to the docs to have a mole checked out on my back. Got refferred to determtoligist and they were more concerned about one on my chest, that I've had for years! Ended up getting 3 removed there and then. The one on my chest, had grown in side, irregular borders but one colour. I was worried sick waitijg for the results. Looked back on photos to check, and it had diuvked in size! Couldn't sleep, almost went sick at work because of the anxiety.

The moles were fine. All begine. Hope that helps. Try not to worry yourself up too much like I did.

    All the Best

  • Hi there.

I was in a similar situation that I had a mole for years, I'd noticed it change gradually over the last few years. I went to see a doctor about it a few years back and she wasn't too worried about it.

I noticed back in February that it's changed in colour so I went to another doctor who red flagged it and i had my excision on feb 14th. It was absolutely grand and nothing to worry about.. I had two small stitches and it was over so quickly and I felt nothing.

curtently waiting my results which I won't get until the 28th.
you've done the right thing by getting it checked, if it turns out to be something- you're on the right track.. and if it turns out to be nothing then even better!

the whole thing is so nerve wrecking but I've found reading through some of these posts on the forum have helped.
