Ct scan

Is there any other reason than cancer does an doctor order a ct scan . Mum had a fibro liver scan but the doctor ordered more bloods even though a endoscopy  and colonoscopy came back clear and   now they want her to a ct scan to check her livercabd stomach again  . I am worried the doctor have missed something   it took over 3 months to get her liver results back .

  • Hi there,

whilst I'm sure there are untold numbers of reasons for ct scans.

    my experiences are mixed.

looking back with hindsight, my first scan i had back in november, clear i might add,

    had some issues.

my subsequent scan, after cancer confirmation through colonoscapy.

was very different, in that the young nurse initially in the first scan had trouble getting the dye into my arm. 5 attempts later, apparnt success.

however the scan 5 weeks later which did fully see the cancer they previously missed went very differntly. you may have been told, or heard how the contrast dye your injected with can give a hot flushing feeling, or a need to pee?

this was very prevalent on the second scan, but nothing on the first.

would appear they went through my vien on the first scan and the dye went into my arm, as, my mother in law has assured me has happened before to her.

added to that with no work of a lie, a few weeks ago my colorectal nurse, when quizzed why my cancer didnt show up on a ct scan just 4 weeks before, replied " a ct scan cant see cancer" whilst booking me for a second ct scan. I asked why am I having a second scan? to which the reply still staggers me.. " to see if its spread?....whats spread?.... the cancer." she literally just said seconds ago the ct scan cant see cancer, but I'm having another to see if there's cancer?

its abit of a minefield. with all the coronavirus  Initailly paid to go to spire. had all sort of scans, and tests, including an mri of my prostate, all clear. except it wasn't. have bowel cancer.

my biggest gripe is that the consultands are defending each other, saying i only mentioned my prostate., how should i know?

next time the plumbers round, should you have to tell them whats wrong exactly with the sink?

dont know where the cut off is, but nhs and private have both let me down,

how should i know whats wrong with me? yet thats the attitude i got from both!
