Endometrial biopsy

Hi

I've recently had an endometrial biopsy 25/01/2022 and a little worried and put myself into a panic as didn't even know I was having a biopsy taken until I got to the gynaecologist appointment also stupidly forgot to ask how long the results would take  it was also very painful as I was so unprepared for this being done.

Got told I was having a biopsy because my endometrium was extremely thick on my two latest ultrasounds. As far as I was aware they were normal. I have got PCOS though or so I was told by the gp from a blood test?!

anyway my symptoms have been going on since 2018 absent periods for months then bleeding for upto 3 months then no period for months again, slight cramps and lower back pain and just recently I've been having pain in my bottom on sitting (not sure if that's related)

im 39 and not menopausal, so I guess that goes in my favour. Also not on any birth control and only take metformin for type 2 diabetes.

just wondering if anyone had similar symptoms and what the outcome was? And am I worrying over nothing?

Thanks for reading my long winded post any information is greatfully appreciated

  • Hello panda83,

I am sorry to hear that your endometrial biopsy was painful. I hope that the pain has subsided now and that you won't have to wait too long for your results. There is information on this page on the biopsy of the womb lining and it mentions that you would normally get your results within 2 weeks.

Waiting for results can be an incredibly stressful time as many of our forum members will have experienced and 2 weeks can feel like a lifetime. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
