Aches in neck following Zometa

I had my sixth Zometa treatment (I have one every 6 months) 12 days ago and since then I have had the most terrible pains in my neck. The muscles in the back of my neck are sore to the touch but also throb. It's making sleeping quite difficult and is making me feel very short tempered. I don't know if it's coincidental to the Zometa as there is nothing about Zometa causing these kinds of side effects. I don't know whether to phone my GP or my BCN?

It's making me feel very miserable.

Any help would be apprecaited.

  • Hello Suz1963 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear about these pains in your neck. We have information on our website on Zometa side effects and bone pain is mentioned as one of the reported occasional side effects so I don't know if it's quite the same as the neck pain you are experiencing but I think it would definitely be a good idea to bring this up with your GP. I would try and get in touch with your doctor and explain that this started after starting your treatment and that you are finding it hard to get some sleep as a result.

The pain seems to be having such a negative impact on your wellbeing that I really think you should bring this to a doctor's attention as soon as you can.

I hope you manage to talk to your GP soon about this.

    Best wishes,
