One positive sentinel node

Hi

Was diagnosed on 17th November with a 15mm grade 1 IDC, had surgery on 9th December, lumpectomy and sentinel node removal. Results on 29th December, one margin not clear with 15mm DCI and one sentinel node out of 4 positive for cancer cells. More surgery scheduled for 13th January and now grade 2. Having re excision  and full lymph node clearance.  It's knocked me backwards and was wondering if anyone's had anything similar.  It's  ER + Her2-

  • I know what you mean. When I was told,  I couldn't take it all in, was expecting to be told I'd have radiotherapy then hormone therapy so when they started telling me I needed more surgery no clear margins and node involvement I wemt into a daze and just wanted to run out the consulting room.

You're bc nurse will probably be really helpful, I had to ring mine so they could explain what was going on.  It was a lot clearer when they talked to me. Still felt crap but more informed.

    Good luck xx

  • My margins were clear but cancer in the one lymph node they took. I was just having radiotherapy at the beginning and now chemotherapy? I can't take it all in. I'll definitely be asking more Qs and come back and let you know. Much love and positive vibes , Donna xxx

  • Yes keep me posted and best of luck for getting more information and answers.

Sending hugs and positive vibes too

  • Hi all. I've  spoken to my bcn today. I have more information now and although I'm not sure of the implications I feel more informed.

My tumour was 13mm. The cancer cells found in the lymph node were micro something so I'm guessing tiny? I'm currently stage 2a  grade 3 but that's subject to change if they find cancer cells in the lymph nodes following the next surgery.  I've written down 3 positive herceptin? And oestrogen negative,  which I believe is a good thing? I'm still classed as having early breast cancer.  My ct scan is Friday morning with results the following Wednesday afternoon.  Crossing everything for a clear scan xxx hope we're all doing OK

  • Hi Donna

Glad you're more informed now. The not knowing is difficult and at least its still early bc.

Hope the ct scan goes well on Friday. I have my second op next Thursday 13th and been for pre op today only to be telephoned and told it wasn't going ahead until 3rd February as they had an urgent case in, then after phoning everyone had another call to say actually it is going ahead. I'm totally stressed out tbh.

Good luck on Friday...sure all will be well

    Love and best wishes

    Julia

  • Hi Donna I'm glad you have spoken to the BCN and are clearer about what is going on. I think it helps to get yr head around things better when we know. Good luck with the rest of your treatment x
