Lump in breast

Hi I'm 51, have been on HRT patches since Sept and found a large ish lump in my right breast just behind my nipple 3 days before Xmas. I saw the GP snd she's referred me to the local breast clinic but my appointment isn't until 19 Jan due to back log and COVID. This is the second time in 18mths that I've been referred. The last time I found a small pea size lump in my left breast which turned out to a a cyst. This lump feels very different. It's about 1 1.2 inches in diameter ( pretty big) and feel knobbly but not painful at all......I'm trying to convince myself it's another cyst but I'm not doing a very good job of it. I e had a horrendous 12mths as I lost my dear dad to lung and brain cancer in the summer and the thought of this lump being something sinister is driving me mad....

  • Hi Donhug,

I know this must stressful, especially after the loss of your dad in the summer, but if you can, try to take some comfort and reassurance that the lump you found in your other breast not that long ago was just a cyst.

Many of our members know how tough this time can be so you're not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer your their support and advice. In the meantime, I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay.

Fngers crossed for good news on the 19th Donhug.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Donhug70,

I'm so sorry you have had a tough time of late.  I'm on HRT too, though it's a monthly cyclical one. I'm 43. I found a similar lump to yours last year - it had bumpy edges and a smooth surface and was large yet painless, just to the left of my nipple in the left breast. Went for a mammogram and got the all clear, it was extra fibrous tissue from an oestrogen surge. I still have it and it doesn't appear to be doing anything but I'm being referred again for breast 'thickening'. Things feel different and the tenderness of my breast and armpit isn't going away. Good luck with your appointment next week. Easier said than done but try not to worry. Your hormones are still settling down after being fed.

  • I also have a largish lump in my lump breast with an appointment on the 19th. I was alerted to it as had a pain that lasted a couple of days. I still get aches and twinges but not as bad. Although saying that I get pains all over at the moment which I'm thinking might be down to anxiety?

My mum passed away from lung cancer nearly 2 years ago and my dad has lived with leaukemia for 13years so we have cancer in the family but I'm only 41 so they were obviously much older.

I am really struggling to think of anything else. I hope we both hear good news on the 19th xx
