Looking for someone who’s been in a similar position?

Hi,

im 24 years old, I haven't had a period for approx 8 months now. I've had a bad lower back for a few months too but lately it's started turning into almost sciatic pain?
I've had blood tests and an abdominal scan.

im now starting to worry it could be something to do with my cervix? But I've seen with cervical cancer it tends to be you bleed more and it's heavy?

I have an appointment with my gp on the 10th where I think she will do a pelvic examination.
Im just worrying myself sick and wanted anyone who's been in a similar boat to me?

thanks so much x

  • I've suffered with severe health anxiety this time last year strangely. Thought I had breast cancer, had to go and live with my mum didn't eat or sleep and lost a stone in 2 weeks.
so I keep trying to tell myself it's that, but it's hard when showing a few symptoms I'm convinced it has to be cancer and nothing else.
I've come out to my sisters this afternoon and I'm already feeling so much better but I will definitely be ringing the doctors tomorrow to get some medication as I stopped it about 6 months ago as anxiety had subsided. Well clearly it's been creeping back without me really realising, I've been saying for a few weeks I'm going to end up making myself Bad again and here I am.

  • I had very bad anxiety, but not heath anxiety, although I do understand how bad it can be and see a lot of it on this forum.

I was having a lot of symptoms but didn’t even consider cancer would be my diagnosis, so I saved myself a lot of worry in advance. If you are convinced you have cancer, then I expect I am not going to be able to sway you from that, but it just seems so sad to be so young and be obsessing about something you haven’t been diagnosed with.

I’m glad you’re out and feeling a bit better today, and definitely get in touch with the gp about getting some medication. I found it very helpful, especially going through my diagnosis and treatment. Any help you can get with reducing your anxiety would be helpful. x

  • I'm starting to wonder if my anxiety is heightening my symptoms.
not sleeping, being tense etc is no good for a bad back I'm guessing?

  • To be honest, I’m sure it is heightening the symptoms you have, especially being tense. There are so many reasons for back pain, most of which are not serious at all, but being anxious can make anything seem much worse. And when you’re anxious, every little niggle and ache can be magnified in your mind, which is very powerful at making you feel worse about everything. And it can certainly stop you sleeping. x

  • Hi Kell,

Very good you are keeping up appointments and seeing your doctor for more tests. Minska has given you lots of really helpful information, and Google can be very unhelpful sometimes! I had similar issues to you when I was younger, so I am hoping that your hormone levels have been checked, nothing to do with cancer, but if these levels are wrong it can cause havoc in your body. Did you get any results from your previous tests? Hope that you get some answers soon!

  • Hi, thanks for the response.

All previous tests have come back fine which was bloods and an abdominal scan 8 weeks ago.
but I'm unsure if I had specific hormone level tests! My sister has asked me this as she has pcos, I had ca125 and that was fine. Currently just feeling annoying pains in hips and legs etc.

  • Hi Kell,

pcos can run in families, and this could cause a lot of the symptoms you have. I was never tested for that myself, but had an ovary and tube removed due to a large cyst twisting. It's worth asking the question at your next appointment, because when you know what's going on it's a lot easier to deal with. Not knowing is the thing that feeds the anxiety monster! Cysts in that area can cause a lot of pain in your back (I know from experience), but it's more likely something like that would be monitored than anything else. The scan you had should have given the doctor an idea if this is, and if you are having a face to face, then this isn't a bad thing - you can get more information (write down any questions you need to ask or you might forget) and hopefully this will make you feel a lot better. I can understand why you joined this forum, the people are really lovely and really helpful, I guess we all fear the worst when things go wrong too (we're human after all!) Let me know how you get on - it's not long now.

  • Honestly, I am a nightmare, another sleepless night for me ahead probably. The pain in my back was low right side. But no my outer left hip is agony, I've even taken cocodamol! I'm my head the cancers spread. I know I sound stupid, I don't understand why I'm thinking this way! It's driving me insane and so draining

  • I had bad hip pain many years ago-it was sciatica, not cancer. There are so many reasons for pain, and most times it isn’t cancer. That really is worst case scenario! x

  • Hi minska,

I have rang the doctors today to get some medication to calm me down. I've got pains in my back lower calves like pressure and back and hip pain. Just thinking the worst
