Into my 78th year and changes in health

Hi, well, I received an invitation to 'introduce myself'. So here goes.

I'm well into my 78th year, married, 3 great children and 7 grandchildren. I was born in a village which was the first place to "cast the first iron cannon" and lived the first 36 years within about 6 miles of the sea in East Sussex. There followed six years with West Midlands County Council, three with Warwickshire County Council, ten with RoSPA and the last nine within various parts of the NHS. I've had various health issues over my life to date, but only in the past 12 months have I had any serious reason to think that I may have contracted cancer. My bowel habit changed suddenly and significantly and I lost more than a stone and a half unintentionally. Partway through the last year I noticed a pain between my ribs and pelvis on the left hand side. During August this year the pain that had been on the left has moved to the right hand side and become more acute. I'm awaiting the results of a flow test and a CT scan.

  • What a lovely introduction Davey, although I'm sorry for the worry the recent changes in your health is causing.

Hopefully some of our members will pop by soon to say hello and offer their support but in the meantime I want to wish you all the best with the results of your flow test and CT scan.

Waiting for results is always tough but I hope the advice given in this article will help and you receive good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph, any encouragement at this time is very welcome. I feel sure that the symptoms are merely an unfortunate coincidence rather than something about which to worrk In truth we have had enough of troublesome things in the past few months. My wife is about to go into Hospital for the removal of a cancer on her bowel. I should add, to give credit where it's due that we wouldn't have known the cancer was there had it not been for the bowel cancer screening service which discovered alien cells in her stool sample. In which case we might well be Months or even Years away from a discovery when things might have been far more difficult to deal with.

Thanl you for all you do! Happy Christmas to you all!

    Dave
