Last few weeks

My father is in his last stages of lung cancer. We were advised an average of 6 weeks left, 4 weeks ago. He has developed a chest infection with green phlegm, his hands are pure white, he is very cold, he had a suspected small stroke 3 weeks ago but is still able for slow movement between rooms. His breathlessness is bad but not horrendous. He had fluid removed a couple of months ago and nobody knows if it is back. The palliative nurses don't think the end is imminent and we are discussing potential need for hospice due to his wife's inability to cope. With these symptoms it feels like the end is very near and yet nowhere near. Anyone else experienced these symptoms and could give an idea of what could happen next?

so sorry for everyone.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Lyoung2 although I'm very sorry to hear your father is in the latter stages of his cancer journey.

The uncertainty this situation brings is very tough but I'm glad you've joined us as many of our members have been through this and hopefully some of them will pop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope the information included in the last few weeks and days section of our website can offer some insight but if you would like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to help.

Sending my best very wishes to you all at this difficult time.

    Kind regards,
