I know noone can tell me how long etc but would welcome any similar experiences.
My best friend since I was 11 was diagnosed with cancer age 46 last year in her anus, groin lymph, liver and lungs. They were only going to do one session of palliative radiotherapy but she felt quite well in herself and the consultant got her onto a trial. 6 months of chemo did shrink the tumours but unfortunately they started to grow again within a few months. They began chemo and radiotherapy but after 2/3 rounds have stopped this as it wasn't having an effect. It's now in her bones and she's already fractured 2 ribs.
She has begun immunotherapy - one round so far but has now developed a pot belly despite being so thin. She has been on anti nausea tablets for a while as her liver was obviously getting worse but is being sick at times and her appetite is poor. She's got pain in her back and stomach and now tells me she is passing blood in her stool again.
When she was diagnosed last year I shot down to see her as I live far away and she looked very ill then but still felt well considering but is now obviously beginning to feel quite ill and sleeping a lot more. She also suffers from severe drug addiction (street drugs) although I think in a strange way that's what's keeping her going!
I guess I'm wondering whether this immunotherapy could improve the situation because I'm worried she's fading fast. She won' discuss prognosis or timescales so it's hard to feel prepared. I was worried she wouldn't see last year out after diagnosis but she's still here 16 months later.
