Pancreatic Cancer

I,m 46 my mum is 77 and has type 2 diabetes and Stage 4 pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed in march this year it  has spread to her liver and last week I recieved a phone call asking if I could go over and feed  her dogs as she kept being sick and had stomach pains,

So I went over and fed the dogs for her and done abit of house work to help her out (she lives alone) after sometime I decided I thought it would be best that she was in hospital recieving the care that I could,nt provide so I dialled 999 within10 to 15 mins the ambulance turned up and after a routine check over they decided to take her to hospital.

She has gone from being able to walk to need help with walking within 3 weeks.

I feel dazed by what is going on it feels light a bad dream but I know it,s not.

  • Hello wub901

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that things have deteriorated quite rapidly over the past few weeks. It's understandable that you're feeling dazed and overwhelmed by things.

You don't mention if your Mum is still in the hospital or if she's been discharged home with care. If she's come home then do keep in touch with the care team and make sure that you ask for any additional help and care that she may need.

It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you'd find it beneficial to have a chat with one of our nurses? I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer andy advice and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • I'm sorry

My mum was the same and the deterioration was remarkable

  • It,s unbelieveable since I have last posted I visited her Tuesday night in hospital she seemed to have perked up a bit however visiting her today all she wants to do is sleep.

The cancer has had a go at her lungs now and the doctor has advised fitting a stent to stop the sickness.
