Stage 4 bowel cancel gone to lymph nodes

My dad is 72 and just been told he has around 6 months left. He had bowel cancer 1st time round and it was removed with no chemo needed. This time 4 yrs later its back but gone to lymph nodes and lung. I guess I'm here just to ask about others experiences with similar cancer. He has a sticky throat and dry mouth due to the lymph and same issue with his back and legs in so much pain so not walking at all much. He's lost alot of weight and although still chatting and smiling bless him, hessleeping more and on morphine and steroids to help with pain. We were told yesterday palliative care will be best now. And he's expecting a blood transfusion next week. I guess I feel so lost for him and my mum. And feel like I need to be prepared for them and my children. But keep trying to second guess what going to happen next. So hearing other experiences would be so helpful. Thanks

  • Hello Torchy26

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has recently been given the news that he has advanced bowel cancer. It's understandably a very difficult time for you all. It's good to hear the palliative care team is going to be involved in managing your dad's care going forwards. I'm sure they will do all they can to keep him comfortable.

It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat with our team of nurses. I'm sure they would be happy to give you any information, advice, and support that they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Torchy26 and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,
