Never thought i would be here ....

Hi Everyone - I dont even know how to start this conversation. My dad has been diagnosed with Terminal lung cancer, stage 4 - grade 3 - he was diagnosed in Jan 2020. He was placed immediatley on Chemo but when COVID hit unfortunately this was stopped.

In this time he had meningitis of the brain, which started all from an infection in his tooth and with his lowered imune system it unfortunatley got worse. Due to this he also started suffering from siezures, even the nurses have said how he is still here with us is amazing.

He started immunatherapy back in August every 3 weeks and it was doing wonders with him, the tumour actualy had a slight shrinkage and was in a Dormant state, however on the last CT Scan there was significant growth and he has now started having issues with his breathing and finding that he is coughing up blood of a morning now.

Im not to sure what to get out of this forum - maybe some understanding, some companionship of people who are going through / have been through the same. i dont know. But i just feel so lost.

I am in London and he is in Wales and i feel like time is slipping away from us and i am struggling to cope with that.

I dont understand what the symptoms are at late stage cancer, and im wondering is this signs that ultimately the cancer is becoming too strong now for the treatment he is recieving? What do i expect when it comes to later stage?

  • Welcome to the forum Harptam although I'm very sorry about your dad's diagnosis and for what he's been through on this journey.

It must be very tough being so far away from him at the moment but you're not alone as many of our members know how difficult it is to be in this situation and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

I know you were asking about what to expect as his cancer progresses so I just thought I'd share some information we have on what may happen in the last few weeks and days. I hope this helps but it can be a difficult read so do only go through it when you feel ready to do so.

If you'd like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Knid regards,
