oesophageal tumour has 'gone to sleep'?

Hi I have a stage 4 tumour as above, had 2 cycles of chemo. The tumour has not increased in size since my last scans.

The specialist has told me my next scan is in 3 or 4 months. Does this mean survival? I am 70 yrs old female.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello alanineuxton,

Fantastic news that your tumour has not increased in size since your last scans and that it is now dormant. Your story reminds me a little of [@davek]‍ 's who was also diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer and for whom chemotherapy also had fantastic results.

If you wanted to talk to one of our cancer nurses about this, don't hesitate to ring their free helpline on 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and feel free to ask them any question you may have.

I hope that your chemotherapy treatment continues to work so well for you!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Alan,

One of my consultants said that a good outcome of chemo is when the cancer becomes indolent - very slow growing. When that happens, it hasn't completely gone but apparently we're more likely to die with it than from it.

Sounds positive - good luck with your next scan!
