Dad still here - just

Hi Everyone

This cancer is hell for anyone having to suffer it. My dad was going about his business in December 2019 and drove himself to a hospital appointment for something unconnected. As soon as he got there he became ill with bubbles coing up into his mouth. The hospital phoned us and said they were concerned because he had dysphagia and they called an ambulance (they only dealt with skeletal things at the hospital he was visiting).   We rushed to the hospital and the nurse at the desk said its not good news, prepare yourself for the worst. They had done tests and put an endosope down and we got the news that dad had esopageal cancer.  We took dad back to his bungalow and he was fine for 10 months which is amazing, but in October 2020 he couldnt eat and was vomiting. Back in hospital they couldnt seem to fit a stent so they stretched his esophagus.  He was in there for 6 weeks and they said he was end of life and sent him to the local hospice. At the hospice they said he wasnt end of life but he couldnt go home because during his long stay at hospital hed lost the use of his legs. Dad was desperate to go home but he tried  walking on his frame and they said no he wasnt safe. Dad went to a hursing home and hated every minute of it.   In February this year dad went into hospital again and this time they fitted a stent and he coud eat again.  Where we are at now is dad had a blocked stent 10 days ago and went into hospital and 7 days ago we were told to get to the hospital urgently because he was end of life with pneumonia. So we rushed there and he did look awful, but now he has come round and is having cups of tea. The doctor said there is a small hole left in the stent and drinks are trickling through. We are still allowed to visit any time of day so were not sure whats happening and dad does still look really ill but hes still here

  • Hi, sorry to read about your dad. My dad was all yellow, when he went in hospital it was his bile duct that was blocked so the bile couldn't get through to the duerdenom. They cleared his infection then he went for an ercp, they put a stent in the bile duct and then took 2 biopsies which confirmed pancreatic cancer. He started on gemcap 1 month ago. The back up of bilirubin causes the yellowness and infection, which causes confusion and tiredness. Hope the doctors can make your dad more comfortable and help him.
