Advice from others

My dad has fought 4 cancers, he's really superman, he had pancreatic cancer and only found out when he went yellow, fast forward and he had a whipple op, chemo and slowly recovered and 18months on was really doing great, a little glitch , a small, tiny tumor by his ribs but it was blasted with radiotherapy, last year started to get pain near ribs but drs said it could be inflammation, he requested a PET scan as ct scan had missed other cancers but was told no, not needed. Bloods were done and suddenly sent for a pet scan. Our world has now collapsed, the cancer is now in stomach and lungs, without chemo he has weeks to live, with it a year at most, he looks so good, eating etc, has pain in ribs and does sleep more but not excessively,he's having chemo but please what can I expect? I know everyone is different but I would really appreciate knowing if anyone else has faced similar?

  • Hi Marsh65

I'm sorry to hear about everything that has happened.

It's not exaclty the same experience for me but similar. Mum who is 88 had severe pancreatitus 12 years ago and was in hospital for 16 weeks having a series of necrosectomies. Perfectly fine up until sufferring with jaundice and feeling 'off' about a month ago. Now has had biliary stent and a confirmtion of advanced, inoperable and untreatable pancreatic cancer, spread to liver. Now at home looking quite good, eating, sleeps more but apart from that seems fine. Very confusing.

Not sure what we both face next.

  • I am so very sorry you are going through this, isn't life awful! I look at him and think he's been through so much and just as we were getting on track then boom, the stomach and lungs, he is really broken and he's not that type, I think he's scared, we are all trying to be there and he as upbeat as possible. I'm thinking of you.
